This month, the Early Childhood Center hosted our spring family event, Literacy Night. The Eric Carle classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, inspired this year’s theme. Families and students embarked on a literary adventure, moving through different themed stations filled with hands-on activities that brought the story to life. Children crafted their own caterpillar necklaces by threading colorful straw pieces and paper together. They got creative with Play-Doh, forming letters from the book’s pages, and explored the life cycle of a butterfly, discovering how a tiny caterpillar transforms over time.
The highlight of the night was our interactive storytelling session. As children entered this station, they were given a picture of an item from the book. When their element of the story came up, they stepped forward and added their piece to the storyboard. Giggles and cheers filled the room as the story unfolded and the children loved encouraging each other as they took turns adding their story pieces. The atmosphere was electric.
From hands-on crafts to immersive storytelling, Literacy Night was a celebration of reading, creativity, and family engagement. Seeing the joy on our students’ faces as they explored, played, and learned together was the perfect reminder of how powerful stories can be.
