Each month, the classrooms at the Early Childhood Center choose a theme to follow. This December, many classrooms focused on “baking”. The students read books about baking, like Stir Crack Whisk Bake, learned baking vocabulary, and played with baking-themed toys in the dramatic play center. Mrs. O’s classroom made “rainbow toast” where the students painted toast with colored milk and then got to eat their colorful creation for snack. Mrs. Jacklin’s class made “fizzy cupcakes” where the students poured vinegar onto “cupcakes” made of shaving cream and baking soda. The students loved seeing the fizzy surprise as the chemicals reacted and the cupcakes grew in size. Other classes decorated gingerbread men and houses during art, went on gingerbread man hunts, and made gingerbread sand for the sensory table. This baking theme was a great way for the students to learn and explore as they engaged in many “baking” activities; making December at the Early Childhood Center filled with creativity, discovery, and a little bit of sweet magic!
