A Day in the Life of an EC Caterpillar

The Caterpillars start their days by coming into school and greeting their friends in the hallway where they line up with their class! Once everyone is present they make their way down the hallway to their classrooms. Every room has a different schedule but most classrooms start with an opening circle where the teachers and students greet each other and get ready for their school day. During the day, the Caterpillars participate in music and dancing at circle time, work on their academic skills at table time, play with their friends while growing their imagination at free-choice time, and get their bodies moving at gross motor time (recess). Each classroom comes together at the end of the day to participate in a closing circle where they read a book and say goodbye to their friends. Then off they go onto the bus or into their cars!

Some of the classrooms are learning about gardening, springtime, and bugs this month! The students have been watching caterpillars turn into butterflies, and discussing what is an insect and what is not an insect. While talking about their favorite bugs at snack time, “My favorite bug is a roly-poly ” said Henry, “I like that they roll into a ball”. Another student, Zaineb, said “My favorite bug is a ladybug! They are big!” While showing me a picture of the bee he made, José said, “Here is the stinger, when bees are mad they sting you!”
